A Brief History of Samsung:
Founded in 1938 Samsung mainly produced and sold regionally its products and in first place it had trade relations to China. Then it changed its location from Taegu to Seoul in 1947.
From then on oversea-trade started and this should be consolidated in particular by establishing of more branches in major world cities in the 1950s.
An important joint venture was made in 1969 with Sanyo (renamed to Samsung Electronics) and NEC (renamed to Samsung Display Devices).
In the 70s the worldwide recession contributed significantly to the economic development of Korea.
The 80s were characterized by developing high technology especially hardware and Samsung was in a leading global position.
Due to the Asian crisis in 1990 it had to concentrate on its core competency and Samsung Electronics evolved as the main branch.
Today, Samsung Electronics is divided into five divisions. Digital Media, Digital Appliance, Semiconductor, LCD, and Telecommunication Network Business. The last one includes the Samsung mobile phone division.
