Mobile Phones - Exciting new technology ...

Hardly any other topic is more interesting to the world of men than that of the multi-functional cell phones - also called "Mobile" called.

The technological boom in this area has increased in recent years almost exponentially which resulted in smaller and smaller devices and shine wonders of technology.

If you have such an device - Who does not nowadays? - it is hardly nessesary to leave your own place. It offers nearly every entertainment and communication service you can think of.

If the lucky owner is busy with his loved multifunctional counterpart and gets asked from a different direction: "What has this thing I do not have?" he should try to avoid answers like: "GPS, MP3, UMTS, 3 megapixels, 2 GB space, ability to surf the Internet, and it fits into any pocket ...". This could result in tangible marital quarrel.
And this list of technical options is by far not complete.

Mobile phones are not meant for old-school voice-to-voice calling anymore. This is just a small feature.
Statements like "You can only call with it." will inevitably result in disgust and feelings of the Stoneage and a size that exceeds that of a conventional cigarette pack is no longer acceptable.

In addition there are standard features to directly connect to other peoples phones or to the home computer and exchance all kinds of data, music, videos, software, everything.
10 years ago the question would have been "Where is the cable?" But in times of Bluetooth and WLAN there is no need for that anymore.

Bluetooth has nothing to do with bad tooth care. Once activated devices in the area like for example Nokia cell phones find each other, start a euphoric beeping-contest and after exchanging the required security data the exchange can start.

This information flowing through the air could not be more complex and diverse in their nature.
It starts with plain text messages (SMS) but ends somewhere else. Far far away. People want to look at each other while calling (video telephony). Integrated cameras make it possible. Pictures and videos of holiday impressions are sent to loved ones at home. Whether to report his experiences and to share with others or to enjoy the enviousness is an open question and better not to be answered.

Surfing the Internet is nowadays nothing you can only do with a personal computer or laptop. Modern phones have all the capabilities to do it. Only the small display is not optimal for longer internet sessions but to do the most important tasks (retrieving e-mails, check the auctions on eBay) it is sufficient. If you use the Internet quite frequently you should condider to make a flat rate comparison!

You can even play computer games with modern phones. Although they wouldn't win a competition against current console or PC games in terms of complexity and scope they are on the level of games released 10 years ago and even better. And with increasing computing power and memory the mobile phones slowly (most likely even faster) transform into small handheld consoles.

The annoying fact that you always had to hold the cell phone in your hand while telephoning is one more thing you don't have to worry about. The keyword is: Bluetooth... Again!

A small Bluetooth headset with a speaker and microphone is wireless connected to the mobile phone and you can chat with your friends while the actual phone remains safely in the pocket. Some years ago it could have happen that passers-by wondered why the person talks to oneself with so much energy and enthusiasm (Modern headsets are are so small they are hardly to discover on the carrier). Nowadays it is quite common and in cars while driving it is even obligatory that you use both of your hands to drive while telephoning for security reasons.

The fact that a person uses such a headset can usually only be identify by the fact that a ring tone in style of quiet song or even a shrill and annoying sound indicates an incoming call.

These ringtones are downloaded with the Internet functionality, shared with friends via Bluetooth or created on the home computer, cut, mixed and uploaded on the cell phone.
Alternativly you can use the service of providers who made it their goal to provide the world with much needed ring tones and ring animations of strange computer-animated animals. And they persue this aim with various commercial breaks in TV. Always anxious to inform their customers with "well-placed" special conditions and by selecting a particularly small font-size about all he has to expect when downloading ringtones via SMS.
Hight prices and unintentionally closed contracts are not uncommon.

Mobile phones can be used for orientation purposes, too. Nothing is more handy than a Handy ;-) if you are lost in a deep forest ... or at least in an unknown town and know of the GPS functionality of your mobile phone. There is no need of a seperate navigation device if the correct software and up-2-date maps are installed on your phone and if it supports GPS. This service is not always free of charge but it's better than staying on a lost odyssey.

Let's see when the first mobile phones are launched on the market with a built-in coffee machine and razor. It's high time.
